Tarpon fishing here in east central Florida are one of the most exciting fish to target in the saltwater world of sport fish and this is the closest tarpon fishing near Orlando you will find. They can range anywhere between 2 pounds all the way up to the 200 plus pound range class here in the area. Fishing for the bigger silver kings are done out of Ponce Inlet, Sebastian Inlet and Port Canaveral all on light tackle using spin fishing or fly fishing tactics.

The big Atlantic tarpon are seasonal migratory fish and begin to show up as early as April and May. The peak season for them tends to be in June, July, August, September, October and November. They begin to migrate out of these waters to head out of this area on a southerly direction back towards the warmer waters of the south Atlantic and Caribbean with the arrivals of the first cool and cold fronts.

The inshore tarpon we target are smaller, well I guess that is relative, the word "smaller", in the 2 to 90 pound class. These juvenile tarpon can be found year round in the backcountry waters of Ponce Inlet, Mosquito Lagoon, Halifax River, Indian River and Sebastian Inlet areas. These fish are a blast to catch and target and can be fun for everyone, all ages and experience levels. Please check out my inshore flats fishing rates page for rates and info on these charters.

A typical nearshore tarpon trip would consist of a few hours of targeting them then a couple of hours pursuing giant bull redfish, cobia, big jacks, tuna, snook, and even a shark or three. At times you can spend the whole charter casting to rolling giant tarpon, this is all based upon weather and current fishing conditions. You can also expect to catch numerous by catch on a days tarpon fishing trips on both the inshore and nearshore coastal ocean waters.

The nearshore beach tarpon charters are done just along our beaches out of Ponce Inlet near New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach, Port Orange, Ormond Beach, Cocoa Beach, Palm Bay and Port Canaveral near the cruise ships. Also at times we do tarpon fishing outside of Sebastian inlet as well. These trips allow us to also to go for some high quality big snook as well. The tarpon along our beaches range in the 80 to 150 plus pound class. We will either meet in Cocoa Beach near Port Canaveral or New Smyrna Beach near Ponce Inlet right off I-95 just east of Orlando.
