Located just to the south in the New Smyrna Beach, Titusville, Edgewater and Oak Hill Florida area is the Mosquito Lagoon and the north Indian River Lagoon system. This area is known as the redfish capital of the world. Sight fishing these flats with light tackle is by far the number one spot in central Florida to fish for redfish, spotted seatrout, tarpon, Florida black drum, IRL snook and so much more. The lagoons are perfect for all anglers, the beginner and the advanced. Fly fishing or spin fishing with light tackle. This is the closest saltwater flats fishing in Orlando Florida.
During certain times of the year we fish out of Ponce Inlet along the beaches for coastal fish such as tarpon, snapper, grouper, flounder, snook, kingfish, cobia, giant bull redfish and much more. Captain Drew Cavanaugh Daytona Beach light tackle flats fishing guide.
The Mosquito Lagoon is located inside the Canaveral National Seashore and the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. This area is a 140,000 acre national park/wildlife refuge located beside the Kennedy Space Center.
The Indian River Lagoon system is also part of this and is an outstanding place to go after the great bull redfish that make these waters home on a year round basis. Both of these bodies of water are roughly thirty minutes from the heart of Daytona Beach.
Captain Drew Cavanaugh also possesses a valid CUA permit, which is required by federal law to fish the Refuge and National Park waters which includes the Mosquito Lagoon area. There is only a small limited number of guides who are on this list, which can be viewed at the Canaveral National Seashores web site under permits. Along with this he also holds all necessary local, state licenses and insurance.
