The weather today was very nice. It started out as a usual summer morning with very light winds. Tiger Shoals in the mid section of the Mosquito Lagoon was my destination. Arriving first there makes all the difference. I started out on the furthest point towards the channel about 300 feet away from the pole troll zone and slowly, I mean slowly worked my way into the area. I almost always use my push pole...this is 100 times better than trolling always. Not only is it a better approach, but a better thing to do for the grass. The winds were west so I used this to my benefit. As I approached the area that went from 4 feet to 2-1 feet you could see action everywhere! The mullet were there in full force as an invasion team! Of course on the first cast(using a Rapala Skitter Walk Topwater Mullet Pattern) I had a small pop...this was followed by an explosion that caught me of guard. A few minutes later came a nice 28 inch plus trout! A few more cast later came a red. Then another and another. I worked my way along the backside of the bar to the other end of the zone using the wind at my advantage. I stayed about 300 feet off the bar side(the south bar) working it parralell. By the time I had gotten to the other side I had caught over a dozen nice fish...All on topwater. Later in the day I moved towards the northern section, north of Georges Bar. Here I slowly worked soft soft plastics and caught a couple more reds and smaller trout before calling it a day. My day today ended by 10a.m. This goes to show you the early bird gets the fish or trout or redfish! Of course I also beat the heat...
