October 11th, 2008 Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Reports One thing about me is I pride myself on being on the water as much as possible, this is why I decided a few years ago to move here. I live within two minutes of the Mosquito Lagoon and this pays off immensely for me and for you the consumer; why you should ask? Well with the cost of living going up greatly I am able to keep my overhead down. To drive hear from central Florida to launch my boat would cost now a days any where from $30-$75 depending on your vehicle. Some one has to make up for this price increase. Well now I do not have this cost. With this being said I also am able to be on the water so much more than other guides that this cost would greatly effect their days off. Allowing me in return to have a greater knowledge of the day to day fishing and then to pass this onto you. I would have to say I fish these waters well over 250 days a year. I feel that I offer my client one of the greatest fishing experiences they will ever have in there life a true world class fishing trip. This is a Florida fishing vacations paradise here. If you should want to hire a guide to fish the Mosquito Lagoon, whether it is myself or another I would like to offer a few tips and or advice. First of all almost every guide out here is a great person. With any where you go in life there will always be a "bad apple" to spoil it for the rest of us. The first thing about guiding on the Mosquito Lagoon is that the Canaveral National Seashore requires by Federal Law that we have a special permit allowing us(guides) to conduct business within the park. Ask your potential guide if he or she has this. If they do not, move on. Some many guides advertise they fish the Mosquito Lagoon and they are not on nor ever been on this list. Flat out false advertising or a bait and switch tactic. I even wonder if these captains even know where the Mosquito Lagoon is? They just use these"key" words to get them ranked in search engines. So again just ask them if they carry a current "CUA" permit issued to them by the U.S. Government. Next is we are all to be a U.S.C.G. licensed captain and have liability insurance, again ask for credentials. This is for your safety. Next is ask them how often they fish these waters. So many guides play bounce around the planet tactics. They guide here for a few months then go to the keys then go to Alaska in the summer and so on. They have no clue how to fish the waters of the Mosquito Lagoon. When ever I hire someone for a special purpose no matter what that is I want them to specialize in that... Not ten different things. I guide on the Mosquito Lagoon. This is what I do and I specialize in this. Always feel free to ask for phone numbers or email addresses of past clients to get their opinions or comments. Remember you deserve the very best so ask for it. Florida Inshore Fishing Charters Site Map Captain Drew Cavanaugh |
