August 25th, 2008 Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Reports

With the recent storms moving through central Florida and the rise of water the fishing on the Mosquito Lagoon has changed a bit. However this just means you must change your tactics. Before the reds were roaming the flats and now they just have more area to roam and feed in. So with this in mind you will need to try and explore new areas you have not fished much before due to lower water conditions. Think of this as a pasture full of cattle. You have 10 cows in a 5 acre pasture. Now you have opened up an additional 3 acres for them to feed. Go to areas where they may be, new food sources for them. If you apply this tactic almost every where you fish. Just not here but all over the state, it will pay off. Sight fishing redfish are almost just like cattle, they graze. Stick this time of year to using mullet or some type of cut bait. Debris equals cut baits. For those of you using the fly fishing method stick with a mullet patterned fly. Early top water lures should produce too if you can keep away from the floating grass. The trout bite should also improve as the weather improves. Fell free to give me a call with any questions or comments or to even book a trip with me. Now get out there and catch some fish. And remember to try to practice catch and release, this will pay off for you in the coming years.
