November 27th, 2007 -; Central Florida Saltwater Fishing Report

Today was one of those days that you should have stayed home. However I am very glad we did not. It turned out to be an epic day. The weather started of bad on the Mosquito Lagoon but turned out to be very nice. The fish were all in the upper slot range with a few red fish and spotted seatrout well over slot. Redfish(red drum or also known as channel bass) and sea trout were caught through out the day on the Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River in the northern section of the Cocoa Beach and Titusville areas.

As throughout the winter and even the whole year here the fly fishing is epic! Using light tackle saltwater fly fishing set ups in a typical 8 or 9 weight you will be able to flats fish pretty much all of the central Florida waters. The best way to get good at this is simple, practice.

Remember, the early bird gets to the good spots first, so there for gets the big redfish! Please be a courteous fisherman. If you get to a spot late and see another boat there, just move to another spot. We all need to give each other space out here. Effort goes a long way for a successful day at backcountry flats fishing.

Be sure the fishing guide you hire for the area fishes there year round and your experience level will be elevated. Too many guides on the Mosquito Lagoon fish here part time and fish other places throughout the year. This effects your trip here. Would you hire a doctor who practices medicine part time? The best way to find out your potential fishing guides qualifications is to ask them. Check out the tips on hiring a fishing guides page for more information on this.
