November 11th, 2007 -; New Smyrna Beach Redfish Fishing Charters Report

Today my clients and I headed out in search of the elusive spotted seatrout. The northern part of the Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River this time of year really lights up. With the twisting and turning islands and creeks, it allows you to get back in seclusion away from other anglers. This also gives you almost an unlimited area to cover while fishing.

Whether you are fly fishing redfish with a 7 or 8 weight fly rod or throwing a Shimano Stradic 2500, this is the place to be this time of year. Any time of year for Florida is great! We caught several (50+) trout along some of the parks campsite islands throughout the Canaveral National Seashore. However the south end in the Titusville and Cocoa Beach area area will produce the same effect.

The redfish(also known as channel bass or red drum) were harder to pursue today but by days end we had landed a few smaller ones. The biggest being around 5 pounds. Overall we had a good day on the water. On the south side the Banana River near Cocoa Beach has been great for big bull redfish and gator sea trout. Fly fishing here has been epic as well! Stellar is a good way to describe it. Grab your canoe and head this way. Using a 5 weight fly rod will bring you some winter pleasure on the Banana River no motor zone. Clauser minnows or brown crabs with a size 4 hook will be one of the better choices. Use the same tactics used on the Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River.

Sight fishing around the Oak Hill area has been just outstanding. Using DOA soft plastics you will be able to get into some great fishing. Fish the banks and shore lines for tailing redfish. Search white holes for nice seatrout. Keep your eye out for activity that is a sign of feeding fish. Bait fish and birds in sight are always a good signal that there could be game fish in the area.

As always handle the fish with caution for that release. Remember that catch and release is the only way to ensure the future of Florida's fisheries. There is no other choice.
