January 1st, 2008 Ormond Beach Florida Fishing Reports
Today Spotted Seatrout opens back up here on the atlantic Florida coast. This does not mean cooler filling time... Try to practice catch and release as much as possible. We want to be able to have fish to catch in twenty years... We live in a day and age where we can raise fish under tents. This is why they have farm raised fish. Think sport fishing! Too many guides are selling their trips based on that you can keep these fish too. Seriously, who wants this? You do not need to hire a guide to do this. Guides out here should be focused on trophy fish that are praised for their fight and then released after a beautiful photograph. The Mosquito Lagoon is a sport fishing paradise. It should not be used for commercial harvest what so ever. Please write your local news outlets and beg them to do research on the over fishing here on the lagoon. It is a National Park, keep it fresh. Recreationally it is a dream come true for red fish, trout, snook and tarpon fishing. Think catch and release, this will pay off for generations to come. Commercial fishing should be done outside the park and refuge boundaries. Remember this is a national park and not a fish market. It has such a small area it is not like it is the size of Alaska.
