Fishing Reports On The Mosquito Lagoon

November 4th, 2007

The winds have finally subsided today. A cold front has moved in. However with a high of 80 degrees out, it does not feel this cold. We headed north, by the New Smyrna Beach area. Just outside the Parks boundaries. Fishing up this way you will find a large amount of oyster bars...Versus south are sand bars. These bars produce large amounts of fish. All kinds of bait fish like hanging around these oyster bars. In return a large amount of predators hang out in search of these baits. I like using the Berkley Gulps up here with just a hook. No weights. This is to be worked very slowly. this allows the Gulp to drop down to the bottom where Redfish and Flounder are lurking. Slow presentation also makes the bait look wounded. By the days end we had landed 3 reds, 10 trout and 2 flounders...Not bad for a days work.
