September 15th, 2007 Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River Fishing Reports The mullet are everywhere! I have stopped using pig fish and have switched to mullet. Free line one or two along bars or on a grass flat and hold on!! The water level has come up quite a bit. Access to areas that were earlier off limits due to low water is now reachable. Mosquito Lagoon fishing is at its prime. The Indian River has been an excellent spot for redfish, snook and tarpon. Fish early, fish quietly and fish it often. Trout are a staple this time of year however please be sure to handle them gently for a good release. Tarpon are hitting well place plastics as they roll in front of you. The Mosquito Lagoon has been the best bet for big redfish too. The south end is being very kind to me and my clients. However this time of year the Orange Island and the Eldora area near JB's Fish Camp is always hot too. Easy fishing and great launching at the Apollo Beach entrance. Perfect for the canoe or kayak fisherman. The guides there are always friendly and willing to answer any questions as well. Great being an Orlando redfish guide. Besides that you can get a bite to eat after fishing. Captain Drew Cavanaugh |
